Job notes, plain explanations, and license study

In the trades, AI helps with the paperwork around the work: daily notes, explaining a job to a homeowner, studying for your next license. It never decides whether work is safe or meets code. That is the code book, the inspector and your licensed supervisor.

You leave with

A daily job note format, a plain-language explanation for customers, and a study routine from your own study guide.

Before you start: never put these into an AI tool

  • Customer addresses, alarm or gate codes, or plans marked confidential.
  • Passwords, account numbers, or anything that unlocks something.
  • Anything your employer says stays inside the company.

Safety: AI never decides if work is safe or meets code. The code book, the inspector and your licensed supervisor do.

How to use the prompts

  1. Fill in the blanks under a prompt, then tap Copy prompt.
  2. Open Claude (opens in a new tab), or the AI tool your employer approves, and paste it into the message box.
  3. Send it, read the answer, and check it before you use it. Then come back here for the next step.

Words in this lesson

Rough-in:
the stage where wiring or piping is run before walls are closed.
Inspection:
when an official checks the work against code.
  1. Step 1 of 3Quick win

A daily job note in two minutes

For your foreman or the customer. Only what happened today.

    Prompt to copy

Turn my notes into a short daily job note for [my foreman / the customer]: what got done, what is next, what we are waiting on, what I need. Use only what I give you. If something is missing, tell me what it is instead of guessing. Notes: [your notes]

    Fill in the blanks

    Fill in the blanks

What you type here stays on this page. It is not saved or sent anywhere.

Fill in the blanks above, or replace each [bracket] yourself after pasting.

    Worked example: spot the problem

Everything here is made up, for practice.

    Their notes

Kitchen circuits roughed in. Waiting on inspection. Need 2 more boxes of 12/2 wire.

    What the AI wrote

Done: Kitchen circuits roughed in and passed inspection. Next: Close walls Thursday. Need: 2 boxes of 12/2 wire.

What did the AI add? Show the answer

The problem: The notes say they are WAITING on inspection, not that it passed, and nothing said walls close Thursday. Closing walls before inspection could mean tearing them open again.

    Fixed, using only the notes

Done: Kitchen circuits roughed in. Waiting on: Inspection. Need: 2 more boxes of 12/2 wire.

  2. Step 2 of 3

Explain the work to a homeowner

Customers trust the worker who explains clearly. No prices, dates or guarantees unless you give them.

    Prompt to copy

Explain this work to a homeowner in plain words, under 100 words. Use only my notes. Do not add prices, dates, warranties or guarantees I did not give. Notes: [what you did and why]

  3. Step 3 of 3

Study for your license from your own guide

Paste a short section of your study guide or code book and quiz yourself on that text only.

    Prompt to copy

Below is a section from my [license] study guide. Quiz me only on this text, one question at a time. After each answer, quote the sentence that shows the right answer. If the text does not answer something, say so instead of guessing. [the section]

Check before you use it

  • Nothing says work passed or is up to code unless an inspector said so.
  • No prices, dates or guarantees you did not give.
  • Every quiz answer is quoted from your study guide.

On your resume, only if you actually did this at work
