Teachers write all day: messages home, adapted readings, plans. AI can take the first draft off your plate. Student privacy comes first: no names, grades, or anything that could identify a student, and follow your school's policy on AI.
You leave with
A parent message prompt with a fact check, a way to adapt a reading, and activity ideas you choose from.
Before you start: never put these into an AI tool
- Student names, grades, behavior notes, learning plans or photos.
- Passwords, account numbers, or anything that unlocks something.
- Anything your employer says stays inside the company.
Safety: Follow your school or district's AI policy. Student records stay out of general AI tools.
How to use the prompts
- Fill in the blanks under a prompt, then tap Copy prompt.
- Open Claude (opens in a new tab), or the AI tool your employer approves, and paste it into the message box.
- Send it, read the answer, and check it before you use it. Then come back here for the next step.
Step 1 of 3Quick win
A clear message home
Logistics, reminders, a quick update. Check every date and cost before it goes out.
Prompt to copy
Write a short, friendly message to families about this. Use only what I give you. If something is missing, tell me what it is instead of guessing. Under 100 words, plain words. Facts: [your facts]
Fill in the blanks above, or replace each [bracket] yourself after pasting.
Worked example: spot the problem
Everything here is made up, for practice.
Their facts
Field trip to the science museum Friday. Permission slip due Wednesday. Bring a packed lunch.
What the AI wrote
Our class visits the science museum this Friday! Please return the permission slip and the $10 fee by Wednesday, and pack a lunch for your child.
What did the AI add? Show the answerHide the answer
The problem: There was no $10 fee in the facts. Families would send money that was never asked for.
Fixed, using only the notes
Our class visits the science museum this Friday! Please return the permission slip by Wednesday, and pack a lunch for your child.
Step 2 of 3
Adapt a reading without changing the facts
Paste a passage you are allowed to use and ask for an easier version. Read both before you hand it out.
Prompt to copy
Rewrite this passage for [grade level] readers. Keep every fact, name and number the same and add nothing. Then list any words a student might still find hard. [the passage]
Fill in the blanks above, or replace each [bracket] yourself after pasting.
Step 3 of 3
Activity ideas you choose from
Give it the goal and the time you have. You are the teacher: pick, change or throw out its ideas.
Prompt to copy
I teach [grade and subject]. Today's goal: [what students should learn]. I have [minutes] and [materials]. Suggest three activity ideas, each in two sentences. Do not include student names or data.
Fill in the blanks above, or replace each [bracket] yourself after pasting.
Check before you use it
- Dates, times, costs and places match your facts.
- The adapted reading says the same thing as the original.
- No student can be identified from anything you typed.
On your resume, only if you actually did this at work
Used AI tools to [adapt materials / draft family messages] for [grade or subject], [result you saw].
