I studied photography at Pacific Northwest College of Art, assisted at Cascade Field Magazine, then joined the staff from 2016 to 2019. Staff work taught me how to shoot other people's workplaces without treating them as scenery. Independent since 2019, I take multi-day assignments for magazines, nonprofits, and land trusts, and I keep a personal series on working waterfronts and river corridors. Portland is home base. The field is wherever the story still has weather in it.

Ethics before the shutter

Consent, sequence, and what happens after publication are part of the picture. A beautiful frame that punches down is still a failure.

Weather is an editor

Bad light and hard rain often push a story toward labor and interiors, which is frequently the truer story than the postcard.
